Treatment Facilities
According to the AA General Service Office guidelines pamphlet MG-14 on Treatment Facilities: "Treatment Committees are formed to coordinate the work of individual AA members and groups who are interested in carrying our message of recovery to alcoholics in treatment and outpatient settings, and to set up means of 'bridging the gap' from the facility to an AA group in the individual's community."
In other words, when individual AAs and groups want to be of service to alcoholics recovering in treatment facilities, they coordinate with the District treatment facilities chairperson, who makes sure there is no duplication of efforts and, conversely, can see to it that as many facilities within the District as possible are being reached by the hand of AA. This Trusted Servant also maintains records of any requirements for volunteering at facilities, such as length of sobriety and mandatory training sessions.
A number of resources are available to anyone interested in working with alcoholics in treatment facilities, most notably the document M-40i, the Treatment Workbook.
